So the car i planned on racing this season won't be ready for atleast a month after the points season starts. my question is, when i pay the $50 to register a points number, can i use one car for a few of the races at the beginning of the season, and then switch to the car i intended on using later in the season?

Point's accumulate with the Driver, not the car. You can race a different car at every race and it wouldn't matter.
