X275 Drag Radial

From Keith:

"Tulsa Raceway Park thrives on putting on the best show available. Because of this, TRP will be bringing several major X275 events to the Oklahoma-based facility in 2014, starting April 25 - 26 with a $5,000-to-win event. "For the first time in the state of Oklahoma, the heavy hitters in the X275 Drag Radial world will be coming to the Midwest for the chance of winning the largest purse ever offered in the state of Oklahoma, or the upper Midwest," said Todd Martin, TRP owner/partner and event promoter. The X275 style of racing has been popular in the southeastern United States and for Martin, the chance to host to this group of racers excites him. "The X275 Drag Radial reign has been going on for a couple of years in the Deep South, and East coast, and is currently the most dominating Drag Radial class in the world right now," Martin explained. "The X275 class has a real heavy fan base, and has become the class to watch for in 2014, and will be a great addition to TRP." Tulsa Raceway Park will be hosting not only one, but three X275 races this year. The July 17-19th race will stand as the premier of the three planned events with a $10,000 payout for a single X275 event Sponsored by Gaines Grinding & Wilson Racing . A value adder will be free car and driver entry. The third event will be in September 26-27 and will pay $5,000 to win. For more information, visit the Tulsa Raceway Park Facebook page."

The recently formed Professional Drag Racers Association (PDRA) announced today, minimum weight limits for entries to its Pro Extreme (PX), Pro Nitrous (PN) and brand-new Pro Boost (PB) classes.

“The minimum weights are going to change a bit from what people were used to last year. Our Pro Extreme minimum is going from 2,200 pounds to 2,275 pounds,” PDRA Technical Director Rick Moore said. “That includes both car and driver and after weighing these cars all last year I can say there were a lot more heavier cars than there were light cars in this class, so this change will actually affect relatively few of the current teams.”

Similarly, Moore said the minimum weight in Pro Nitrous will increase from 2,300 pounds to 2,375 pounds.

“The way it was the rules benefited just a handful of lightweight cars while basically handicapping the rest of the field,” he explained. “What we’re doing will be more advantageous to more teams, to the drivers who might be a little bigger than others or to the smaller teams that maybe can’t afford the $150-thousand chassis.”

For the new Pro Boost class the minimum weight will be 2,550 pounds, Moore said. “There will be no overdrive restriction or rear gear restriction,” he added. “As long as its turbocharged, ProCharged or you run a 14-71 supercharger and you weigh at least 2,550 pounds, you can come race.”

Moore also said the Extreme Pro Stock (XPS) minimum weight of 2,425 pounds will not change, but the Pro Extreme Motorcycle (PXM) minimum may be slightly altered—but not before he consults with several top PXM drivers and tuners.

“We only want to make changes that will benefit the class—in any class,” Moore stated. “We’ll have a complete set of rules out very soon, but felt it was important to get these minimum weights out there as soon as possible so everyone can start preparing accordingly.”

SALTILLO, MS – A new organization has been formed to provide racers, fans and manufacturers involved with professional-level PDRA logooutlaw doorslammer drag racing a promising future in 2014 and beyond.

The Professional Drag Racers Association (PDRA), founded by well-known racers Jason and Mitchell Scruggs, Gene Hector, Roger Henson and Tommy Franklin, aspires to create a solid foundation for eighth-mile Pro Mod-style drag racing and offer their racing brethren with a stable, safe and competitive venue for the quickest and fastest doorslammers on the planet.

“Our goal is to give outlaw doorslammer racers, as well as all the fans, track operators and sponsors who have supported this kind of racing over the years, an organization they can be proud of,” says longtime racer Jason Scruggs. “The PDRA is racer owned and racer operated, and while we understand that there will be a building process, we’re looking forward to a strong series in 2014.”

The 2014 PDRA series tour will feature eight races starting with the season-opener on Friday and Saturday, April 4th-5th at Rockingham Dragway in Rockingham, North Carolina. The series will then move to South Georgia Motorsports Park in Valdosta, Georgia on May 9th-10th, Memphis International Raceway in Memphis, Tennessee on May 23rd-24th, U.S. 131 Motorsports Park in Martin, Michigan on June 27th-28th, Virginia Motorsports Park in Richmond, Virginia on July 25th-26th and Osage Casino Tulsa Raceway Park in Tulsa, Oklahoma for a unique “under the lights” race on August 15th-16th before returning to Rockingham Dragway on September 5th-6th. The series will then return to Richmond, Virginia on October 10th-11th for its conclusion at Virginia Motorsports Park.

At each stop on the 2014 PDRA series tour there will be eight eliminator categories contested, including Pro Extreme, Pro Nitrous, Extreme Pro Stock, Pro Boost, Pro Extreme Motorcycle, Top Sportsman, Top Dragster and Junior Dragster.

Longtime racers Bob Harris and Rick Moore, both of North Carolina, have been called upon for PDRA’s day-to-day operations and will spearhead the upstart organization’s forward progress.

“There are still a few details to work out, but we are thrilled at the support that has already been shown by racers, track operators and potential sponsors behind the scenes,” says Harris. “I’ve been a racer for over 30 years, involved with Pro Mod for the last 5-6 years with a son who races, and I’ve seen this type of racing really grow. Truthfully, it’s very important that we preserve it, and I think the sport needs an organization like PDRA. I’m looking forward to working with Rick, who I’ve worked closely with before, and – bottom line – we’re going to make this deal better than anything that’s out there currently. We’ve got all the tools to do so, and we’re committed to making PDRA the premiere eighth-mile drag racing association in the world.”

Rules, purse structure and various other items will be announced in the coming days and weeks, as well as the creation of an official PDRA website or call Bob Harris (919-880-4962) or Rick Moore (336-382-9516) for more information.
