Pre-Dawn Transportation, Inc. Teen Championship Racing (TCR) allows teenagers 13 to 17
years old to compete against each other in street legal cars and
trucks. The TCR program is an inexpensive way for families to
get involved in drag racing and offers a chance for parents to
cultivate a close working relationship with their children.
• A Co-Driver will accompany the TCR competitor on all runs to coach
the driver and to join in the fun.
• TCR participants receive an IHRA Competition License, IHRA Rule
Book (optional), a one-year subscription to Drag Review magazine
(optional), and medical coverage.
• All races are conducted over a distance of 1/8th mile with an ET
dial-in format. Cars are limited to 10.00 seconds and slower.
TCR drivers may not compete in any other class except Jr. Dragster.
CO-DRIVER: The co-driver must be the driver’s parent,
legal guardian, or adult 25 years of age or older, with a valid
state driver’s license. The co-driver must be seated in the
passenger seat of the vehicle any time the driver is in the driver’s
seat. The co-driver must drive the vehicle in the pits, into
the staging lanes and on the return road beyond the time slip booth.
DRIVER: Ages 13 to 17 (or until they have achieved a
State driver’s license) may be licensed to compete in TCR. All
runs must be made with an approved co-driver. A photocopy of
every competitor’s birth certificate, a signed Parent/Guardian Minor
Release Form and fee must accompany all license applications.
LICENSE: All TCR competitors will be licensed by an
IHRA Track Official. The licensing procedure includes vehicle
orientation, a basic driving test, and a minimum of six licensing
runs. An Official or Co-Driver must be in the vehicle at all
times.
To satisfy vehicle orientation requirements, the licensee must
demonstrate familiarity with all of the vehicle’s primary controls
such as pedals, steering, shifter, lights, etc. Drivers must
perform this orientation test for each vehicle entered in
competition.
Licensee must complete a basic driving test, demonstrating the
ability to start the engine, select gears, turn and brake to a stop
proficiently.
The Official will make one run with the licensee as a passenger.
This will allow the official to determine the safety and eligibility
of the vehicle to run over the elapsed time limit, and orient the
licensee to track fixtures, starting line, timing system, return
road, timeslip booth, etc. The licensee must make a minimum of
three (3) approved runs with the official as the co-driver. The
licensee must then make a minimum of three (3) approved runs with
the assigned co-driver and witnessed by the track official. If
the driver passes the test, the track official and co-driver must
sign the driver’s license. Officials must deny a license to any
driver they feel cannot handle the vehicle.
The driver may only drive the vehicle from the staging lanes, on the
track, and on the return road as far as the timeslip booth.
The co-driver must drive the vehicle at all other times.
VEHICLE: Must be a full-bodied car, truck, van or SUV.
Convertibles, Jeeps, motorcycles, modified vehicles and/or
specific-built racecars prohibited. The vehicle must pass IHRA
and state safety regulations. The vehicle must be licensed and
equipped with mufflers, DOT street tires and seat belts.
Electronics prohibited. Seat belts usage is mandatory for the driver
and co-driver.
POINTS: It will cost $10 to enter into the 2009 points for the Teen
Class. All 10 races will count for points. You will earn 25 points
for show up points, 10 per round won, (buybacks receive points at
half the rate) a bonus of 10 for a class win and 5 for a
class runner up.
